How Would You Eliminate the Pay Gap for Women?

Pay for women in Boston is better than the rest of New England, but it's still not on par with what men make for the same jobs. Should we pass laws to attack the problem, or is there another solution?

The pay gap between men and women—the difference in pay for the same jobs—was front and center in this week's presidential debate. The exchange over equal pay led to the second debate's most memorable quip about "binders full of women." That statement became an instant internet meme.

Slate, meanwhile, has published an interactive map showing how each state and county does with wage inequality. In New England, Suffolk County (Booston and a few surrounding cities) does best. On average, women here are paid 83 cents for every dollar a man earns for the same job.

Worst in New England? Coastal New Hampshire's Rockingham County, where women average 59 for every dollar a man in a similar role would earn.

After decades of debate, the needle's barely budged on pay inequality. What can be done? Should the government step in and legislate pay equality? Or should there be more societal pressure on companies? Tell us your ideas in the comments section below.

Bob Samson is right, vote for Obama because Myth Romney does not support equal pay for women.

Women should work in construction. hard, physical labor that pays better than office jobs. Also, too many men die in our wars. I would like to see some parity in those who are killed in combat. Let's do away with men holding the door for a lady, men picking up the restaurant tab , men asking women out for dates. Men begging for sex etc.

Why do men keep signing up to die in wars, John? That's the real question. Humanity has been on this planet for 250,000 years, and war is still their best answer for resolving conflict. How does that compute? Why do men put up with themselves, that's what women would really like to know? Why don't they just decide to be better, and do better w themselves. It's a mystery for all time that men still make so so so many lousy decisions for themselves and their world. It's a mystery alright. We've had better cleaner energy solutions for almost 100 years. It's not hidden. This is known.
My suggestion would be to just stop. Stop warring. Be a new race of men. Keep it simple. And, btw, look up Gary Johnson. He is the first man signing his name down to a new class of male human beings. Join him.

Are you saying you would like to see more women die in combat, then currently do? Your comments seem off topic. What does holding a door open, picking up a tab, or "begging for sex" have to do with equal pay for women?

Obama should lead by example and he does not. Even he pays women less than men.
