Foodmaster Tops Convenience/Grocery List
Readers chose Foodmaster as the best grocery or convenience store in Charlestown for this week's Best of Patch Reader's Choice award.
We asked you this week to vote for your favorite grocery or convenience store, and the winner should surprise no one.
The Foodmaster on Austin Street (I know it will forever by Johnnie’s, but ‘Foodmaster’ is its official name) won with a solid 62 percent of the vote.
Bob Deveaux, the store manager, said he was excited by the news.
“I’d like to thank our loyal customers,” he said. I really appreciate it, That’s awesome.”
Boston Organics came in a distant second with 11 percent of the vote, and we should give a nod to the Market Basket in Chelsea, even though it’s not in town.
Reader Bette Task said she was a loyal customer there, and said it had the “best selection at the lowest prices anywhere.”

I'm confused by your request. The article says that you said you're a loyal customer at Market Basket in Chelsea.

This was thanks to the manager before Bob Deveaux. His name was Kevin Perno. He made that store what it is today!!!!

I would like to thank manager Kevin Perno not for what goes on inside Foodmaster, but outside. He has allowed community activists and fundraisers, most notably youth athletic programs, to utilize the entrance area in an effort to genrate interest and raise revenue. This vital function, in no small part, helps sustain these activities and for that I am extremely grateful. Thank you Kevin.
