Charlestown could be getting a new option for childcare with the renovation of the former Bunker Hill pavilion.

Jerome A. Kyllingstad, vice president of National Development, presented an early look at the project at the Nov. 8 Charlestown Neighborhood Association meeting.

National Development, which is behind other renovations in the Constitution Center area, is currently negotiating a lease for about 9,600 square feet in the former pavilion—identified as "building 3"—for a yet-to-be-named childcare company, Kyllingstad said.

The project would involve a reuse of the existing building and would be “very low impact,” Kyllingstad said. The business would serve about 110 children from ages 3 months to 6 1/2 years old and would also offer “emergency backup care” for older children, with preregistration. The site would also feature playground equipment that could be available on the weekends for area residents to use. 

Kyllingstad did not yet know what tuition would cost for the childcare facility.

The earliest the business would open would be fall 2013, he said.
