Charlestown Sends Three to NHL, One to Bruins

Townie Matt Grzelcyk heads to the Boston Bruins, Jimmy Vesey heads to the Nashville Predators and Brendan Collier goes to the Carolina Hurricanes.

As if Charlestown needed more reason to cheer for the Boston Bruins.

A town that’s already hockey nuts now has one of its own waiting on the wings to wear the black and gold at TD Garden, and two more ready to play NHL hockey in other cities.

The B’s drafted Townie Matt Grzelcyk, who played his last season with the USA National Team Development program, in the third round of the NHL Draft Saturday.

Overall, he was the league’s 85th pick—and Townie hockey pride this week doesn’t end with Grzelcyk.

The Nashville Predators picked Jimmy Vesey, who played last year with the South Shore Kings, in the third round, 21 picks before Grzelcyk. Rounding out the three, the Carolina Hurricanes picked up Brendan Collier, who ESPN Boston named Mr. Hockey for 2012.

Tommy's stats have also been added to the hockey archives; his 348 NHL points tops the list. His college stats have been added as well. Again, I greatly appreciate being informed of anyone who is not included on the list.
