Charlestown marched their game to the TD Garden Monday night, and put up a strong effort, but fell in overtime to Brockton’s surge.
Coach Edson Cardoso’s crew fell behind in the first half before fighting back to take a lead into the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
As the clock ticked down, though, Brockton tied the score and forced the game into overtime. The boxers continued that surge and built a five-point lead—too much for the Townies to overcome.
Fans tweeting from the game called it good game, saying that Charlestown played its best.
Despite the loss, the squad from Charlestown High School still stands as the MIAA Division 1 North champions—a title they can claim due to their tight victory over Lexington this weekend.
Brockton now advances to the state title game. They will play the winner of St. John’s Shrewsbury and Springfield Central who play Saturday at the DCU Center in Worcester.
