Are You Running (Raising Money For) the Boston Marathon?

The Boston Marathon takes place in less than two months. Charlestown runners: Let your neighbors know about your efforts.

On April 16, runners from around the world will set off on the 116th Boston Marathon.

That's not so far off, and marathoners in Charlestown have been training all winter for this moment (we've seen you out there, running in the cold and rain, and we think you're a little crazy, but we respect what you're doing).

As runners increase their miles, load up on carbs and develop anti-chafing strategies (is that what marathoners do? We really don't know), many are also trying to raise money for charities that parther with the Boston Marathon. Those who run the marathon as part of a charity effort need to raise $4,000!

If you're a Charlestown resident and you're running the Boston Marathon, tell us about your training and your inspiration, and also share information about your fundraising efforts.

Leave a comment below, and if you're running for charity, tell us about it and include a link to your online fundraising profile.

As the marathon gets closer, we'll share your information on the site.

Hi!
I'm running the Boston Marathon in memory of my mom, who passed away in 2007 to lung cancer.

I'll be running for Team Lung Love, which benefits the Lung Cancer Alliance, and I need to raise $5,000!

If you'd like to help, please consider making a donation to my fundraising page below.

Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer, taking more lives than breast, prostate, ovarian, colon cancers and melanoma COMBINED, yet it receives the least amount of research dollars.

We need to get more funding and help remove the smoking stigma and find better treatments so that lung cancer stops being the death sentence that it is today!

Thank you for your support!! If you want to join Team Lung Love, feel free to email me at jgaynor711@gmail.com.

Hi!

I'm running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund in honor of Joey Franceschelli.

Joey was 2 ½ yrs old when he was diagnosed with aninoperable and rare Astrocytoma Glioma level 3 tumor. Even after chemotherapy, the tumor was stillgrowing. Dana Farber provided the option of experimental drugs, and provided the Franceschelli’s some additional time with their precious son, even though Joey ultimately lost his battle with cancer.

DFMC directs 100% of the funds it raises to the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber, the institute's goal is to find better therapies and, ultimately, cures for cancer.

If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online using the link below.

Hi, I am running the 2012 Boston Marathon as a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) team. Raising money for BGCB will help fund programs, athletic teams, and education for the children of Charlestown . BGCB serves approximately fourteen thousand children and teens. It is an honor to contribute to an organization that so positively impacts individuals in my very own neighborhood.

During my training when I feel like I have hit a wall, I remind myself of all of the children and teens relying on BGCB for a safe place to go. It gives me the motivation needed to push through even the most grueling long run.

Please help this very worthy organization with a donation of ANY amount via the link below. Your support and encouragement fuel me. I couldn't do it without all of you!
