Apartment Tower Planned Near TD Garden
Plans for the project were filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority last week.
This time next year, Boston’s West End could see construction begin on a new 38-story apartment and retail tower located near TD Garden.
Developer AvalonBay Communities Inc. filed plans with the Boston Redevelopment Authority last week for the $200 million project, which features more than 500 apartments and a two-story “retail arcade” that connects to TD Garden and to North Station, according to a Boston Globe article.
AvalonBay’s project shows a considerable increase in the number of residences from a previous proposal—put forward by Boston Garden Development Corporation and approved in 2006—that called for 363 condominiums on the site. Though approved, the former project did not go forward because of economic conditions at the time, according to the Globe article.
The new proposal, called “Nashua Street Residences,” features 503 units—a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the Boston Business Journal reported. But AvalonBay representatives said in the filing that the company might look to develop condominiums on the property if there is a market for them.
The residential tower is planned for a height of 460 feet and will also feature 219 parking spaces at its base, according to the Globe report.

I'm happy to see this area rebuilt so we don't have such an eyesore looking out towards the North End. The rub here is the size is now just too big and not enough parking given the limits of the area. They need to go back to the original size agreed to.
I fear its just sheer greed by the developer.
