Human Trafficking speaker event at St. Mary Church on April 7
Sr. Joan Dawber, director of Lifeway Network, will speak on April 7 to parishioners and guests about this horrid form of slavery, of mostly children and women, which is rampant abroad, in America, and right in our local communities.
The Lifeway Network organization provides “safe housing for survivors of human trafficking and to offer educational opportunities for the general public. ”
Lifeway reveals some astounding facts on their web site, lifewaynetwork.org: between 14,500 and 17,500 people, primarily women and children, are trafficked to the United States annually. Many children are sold to provide funds for the rest of their family. Ads featuring trafficked women are often found in personal ads in local newspapers and on popular buy-and-sell web sites.
The Human Trafficking speaker event was canceled in January due to snow, and we are very glad to welcome Sr. Dawber back to the parish! She will speak in the lower hall at Saint Mary Church at 55 Warren Street on April 7 from 6:30-8:30PM. Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by email at sjc@stmaryscatherine.org or call(617) 242-4664 .
