Boys and Girls Club Honoring Senator Sal DiDomenico
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Middlesex County is honoring Massachusetts State Senator Sal DiDomenico as its 2012 Hero of the Year, Zipporah Velasco as its Youth of the Year, and Elizabeth Brauer as its Volunteer of the Year at its second annual Inspiration Celebration. The event is being held on Nov. 15 at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge from 6-9 p.m.
DiDomenico has played a critical role in opening the Boys and Girls Club in Everett and has volunteered and supported the Cambridge late night summer basketball program.
Zipporah Velasco, age 15, joined the Club as a shy nine-year-old. Through participating in Club programming and working with staff, she took on leadership roles inside and outside the Club—earning the most volunteer hours of any Medford High School student.
Elizabeth Brauer, a Tufts University Tisch Scholar, created a one-on-one mentoring program that paired 20 youth most in need of academic or social support with a Tufts student. She engaged more than 15 additional volunteers to support the Medford Club programming.
“Each honoree has contributed countless hours of volunteering, advocacy and leadership to make each clubhouse a place where great futures and goals can be realized,” said Lorita Williams, executive director of the agency. “We hope the festivities of the Inspiration Celebration will inspire more people to join us in achieving our mission. We need more heroes! Capes are optional.”
Attendees at the Inspiration Celebration will experience Club programs to help them understand the experiences and opportunities the organization offers while encouraging them to reflect on the community heroes that help create great futures for our youth.
Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased online at www.kidsclubs.org.
